This Privacy Policy explains what data Runback (“Runback”, “we”) handles when you use the Runback desktop application and the Runback browser extension, and why.
Runback is a no-code web-automation tool. You show it a task once; it turns your demo into an automation that can run again on schedule. The browser extension is the in-browser agent for the desktop application: it records the actions you perform on a website and replays automations you create. The extension is controlled by, and reports results to, the desktop app on your computer; it performs no actions on its own.
Runback accesses the following only to provide its function (recording and running your automations):
Runback acts on a page only when you explicitly record or run an automation you created. It does not track or monitor your general browsing.
The browser extension transmits the data above only to the Runback desktop application installed on your own computer, via Chrome native messaging (or a localhost fallback at 127.0.0.1). The extension itself does not send your data to any third party.
To generate, run or repair (debug) an automation, the Runback desktop application sends relevant data to Runback’s cloud AI services. This data leaves your device. It can include: the task description you write; the content, structure (DOM) and/or screenshots of the pages you are automating; the automation script being produced; and — if your automation is asked to read a local file (for example a spreadsheet, document or PDF) — the contents of that file. These cloud AI services include third-party AI providers (large-language-model providers we integrate) that process this data on our behalf to produce your automation. The data may be stored and logged for as long as is needed to produce your automation and to operate and troubleshoot the service. It is used solely to produce and run your automations; it is not sold or used for advertising. By default, your recordings, captured screenshots and generated scripts are otherwise kept as local artifacts on your own computer (see Optional cloud sync & sharing below).
Using Runback requires a Runback account. When you register and sign in, we store your account email, authentication credentials (as a securely hashed password) and a device identifier on Runback’s servers, so we can verify who you are and associate your automations with your account.
Cloud sync is off by default — your recordings and automations stay on your own computer. If you turn sync on (for example, to use Runback across more than one of your devices), your automations, recordings (including their screenshots) and run history are uploaded — encrypted — to Runback’s cloud storage so they can be restored on your other devices. Sharing is always something you start: only when you choose to share an automation with another user or publish it is that automation sent to the recipient or catalog you select. You can keep everything local by leaving sync off and not sharing.
An automation acts on real websites using your own logged-in session and can change real data. While you are creating, testing or debugging an automation, we strongly recommend using a non-production account or a dedicated test system / environment rather than a live production account, so that a mistaken or in-progress automation cannot affect important data. You are responsible for the accounts and systems you choose to automate.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising or to build user profiles. We do not use it for any purpose unrelated to running your automations. We do not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Local settings and identifiers remain until you uninstall the extension or app, or clear browser data. You can stop all data access at any time by uninstalling the extension or quitting the Runback desktop application. If you have turned on cloud sync, you can ask us to delete your account and cloud-stored data (your synced automations, recordings and account identifiers) by emailing support@runbackai.com; we delete it within 10 days, except where retention is required by law. Data kept only on your own computer is under your control — you remove it yourself.
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where the change is material, ask you to review it again in the app.
